One of the biggest complaints that reborn artists have when rooting their dolls heads is how much their fingers and hands hurt. Heavenly Illusions Coated Rooting Needles can help with this. These German Rooting needles are made with a rubberized coating at the top so that it will be more comfortable to hold your needles. These cannot be used with any rooting tools so they are ideal for the reborn artist who likes to root with only a needle.

The 42GG 3 Barb Lavender needle is very strong and ideal for rooting stronger mohair like yearling, adult or even human hair. You can also root fine kid mohair with this needle and even though it is a bit thicker, it hardly will leave any puncture marks. When the head is heated, the needle will slide through easily.

The 42GG 3 Barb needle is quite stable and suitable for almost all hair.  Above all, if one does not work over the middle of the hair strands, but punctures in the end, this needle proves to be extraordinary. This is different than the 42 G 3 B. we also sell and you can tell by the shape and arrangement of the notches. When you pull the hair end reliably using this needle, it will avoid  the ugly little stubble that tends to arise when the notch depth for the strength of the hair is not sufficient. This needle has HL notches, which are characterized by a particularly rounded shape and thus on the one hand protect the vinyl and on the other hand avoid that the hair will break when piercing it into the vinyl. When the head is heated by a source of heat (e.g., a halogen lamp) or by a rice bag, the needle slides on almost by itself, leaving punctures that are barely visible.

There are 8 different needles to choose from including 40, 42, 43 and 46 gauge with either 1, 3 or 6 barbs. Each needle has a different colored top so they are easy to distinguish when you are not using them. We sell them in packs of 10 of the same needle or you can also choose to buy our 16 multi pack which will include 2 of each of the 8 types of needles.

ALWAYS clean the needle with rubbing alcohol before using!!  The factory coats them with oil to prevent rust.  It's best to leave the factory oil on to protect your needles until just before you use them.

General Information:

The needle sizes (38,40,42, 43, 46 etc) refers to the thickness of the needle. The higher the number,  the finer the point of the needle. There are also differences between the alignment and size of the barbs. We’ve conducted comprehensive trials to determine which needles we should stock. Due to the fact that mohair, depending on the quality and age of the animal, can come in differing thicknesses, the rooting results can often vary even when the same needles are used. The softness/thickness of the vinyl can also heavily affect the result. Therefore, there isn’t a single needle that is suitable for every job. Instead, we have a range of needles that, depending on the job at hand, deliver the best results. In our trials we discovered that the needles which we now stock were the best selection. From these there was always one which produced the desired results.

1.) 40G  –  Comes in 0 barbs, 1 barb, 3 barbs and 6 barbs. Three barbs arranged around the needle means that as a rule only one barb takes a hair with it when rooting. The needle has a 40g point and medium barbs. This makes it stable and achieves particularly good results with thicker mohair and vinyl. Due to their stability we would recommend these needles to beginners. (2-4 hairs depending on mohair)

2.) 42G  - Comes in 0 barbs, 1 barb, 3 barbs and 6 barbs.  Three barbs arranged around the needle. This means that as a rule only one barb takes a hair with it when rooting. The needle has a 42g point and fine barbs. This makes it particularly good for medium/fine mohair and vinyl. With the 42g there are practically no holes visible. (1-2 hairs depending on mohair).

3.) 43G – Comes in - 0 barbs and 6 barbs.  A single barb directly on the point of the needle. Please note: the needle must be parallel to the hair when rooting in order to take a hair. The needle has a 42g point and fine barb. This makes it particularly good for medium/fine mohair and vinyl. Through a light rotation of the needle it is possible to regulate the amount of hair that is taken with the needle as if the bar is not parallel to the hair it will take less/no hair. (We don’t recommend this needle to beginners due to the necessary technique.) (1-2 hairs depending on mohair).

4.) 46G – Comes only in 6 barbs.  A single barb directly on the point of the needle. Please note: the needle must be parallel to the hair when rooting in order to take a hair. The needle has a 46g point and ultra-fine barb.This makes it particularly good for fine mohair and vinyl. Through a light rotation of the needle it is possible to regulate the amount of hair that is taken with the needle as if the bar is not parallel to the hair it will take less/no hair. (We don’t recommend this needle to beginners due to the necessary technique.) (1 hair with medium mohair, 1-2 with Kids Mohair).
